LEHMAN WINS STATE FFA VEGETABLE PRODUCTION PROFICIENCY AWARD COLUMBIA , Mo., April 16, 2009 – Lindsey Lehman, of the Bolivar FFA Chapter, Bolivar, Mo., was named the state winner of the Vegetable Production Proficiency Award at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention. Lehman, a senior at Bolivar R-1 High School, is the daughter of Craig and Lisa Lehman. Her chapter advisors are Al Skalicky and Jason King. As a member of Bolivar FFA Chapter, Lehman attended the National FFA convention, the State FFA convention and the greenhand motivational conference. Outside of FFA, Lehman is involved in the softball and basketball teams and is a member of the choir. Lehman’s Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) involves growing garden vegetables such as tomatoes and peppers. She sells vegetables around her community to friends and restaurants. Lehman plans to continue to increase her business and sell to more businesses. She also plans to produce green pepper jelly using her own home-grown produce. Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Vegetable Production is one of 47 proficiency awards presented at the state level. The Missouri Vegetable Growers Association sponsored this award. The Missouri FFA Association has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has more than 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
