BOLTE FROM THE BOWLING GREEN FFA CHAPTER RECOGNIZED AS AREA 5 STAR FARMER

COLUMBIA , Mo. , April 16, 2009 - The Missouri FFA Association recognized Lorryn Bolte of the Bowling Green FFA Chapter as Area 5 Star Farmer at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention. She is the daughter of Mike and Karen Bolte of Bowling Green, Mo. Her advisors are Brock Bailey, Jason Davis and John Kallash.

 

Area Star Farmers are chosen based upon outstanding production agriculture for the student’s Supervised Agriculture Experience Program and active participation in FFA. Area 5 covers 18 chapters in the Northeast District.

 

MFA Inc., Columbia, sponsors the 16 Area Star Farmer awards.

 

Bolte’s SAE began with three cow-calf pairs, three feeder steers, 150 laying hens, and five quarter horses. She has raised Blue Andalusian and Blue Wheaten American chickens; she sells 4,100 dozen eggs a year. Bolte’s SAE now includes eight cow-calf pairs, six feeder steers, six quarter horses, nine show pigs, and 400 laying and breeding chickens. She works at the local Purina feed store and Bowling Green Veterinarian Clinic. She shows Welsh ponies for Elite Welsh Pony Farms.

 

Bolte’s FFA activities include serving as chapter reporter and chapter historian. She is currently chapter president. Bolte placed first individually at the district livestock Career Development Event. She has been on several teams including horse evaluation, livestock judging, farm management, parliamentary procedure and FFA knowledge. Bolte also competed in the creed-speaking contest. She has been a member of the Bowling Green FFA Ladies’ Trap Team for four years. Bolte was the Area 5 Diversified Livestock Proficiency Award winner and attended the Washington Leadership Conference.

 

Some of Bolte’s school activities include being a member of Alpha Beta Gamma and student council, where she served as her class representative. Bolte is a member of University of Missouri Extension 4-H, where she helps coach the horse judging team. She also serves on her local youth fair board.

 

Bolte plans to attend MU to pursue a degree in animal science and agricultural business. She also will work toward a minor in agricultural education. Bolte hopes to attend veterinary school and own a practice in rural Missouri .

 

The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has more than 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands.
