Schuknecht named Second Place Winner of the 2009 Missouri FFA Beef Production Entrepreneurship Proficiency Award COLUMBIA , Mo., April 16, 2009 – Karla Ann Schuknecht, of the State Fair FFA Chapter, Lincoln, Mo., earned second place in the FFA Beef Production Entrepreneurship Proficiency Award at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention. Schuknecht, a senior at State Fair C&T Center, is the daughter of Brad and Cindy Schuknecht. Her advisors are Cindy Schuknecht and Crystal Hardy. Schuknecht attended National FFA Convention. She also has attended the Washington Leadership Conference. She was involved in the State Wide Career Development Event workshop. She has been a Missouri State Fair exhibitor. Outside of the FFA, Schuknecht is a member AIJCA Member, softball, volleyball teams and is a cheerleader. Schuknecht’s family raised Charolais cattle. She was taught by her entire family to raise and show Charolais cattle from a young age. Her winning show strategy is to select semen from well know bulls. One of the females she raised went on to become a National Champion in 2004.Throughout the years she has learned to identify and treat sick animals, as well as assisting calving heifers. After high school Schuknecht plans to produce and raise high quality calves to market to other Charolais breeders. She hopes to make her mark in the cattle industry through her success in the show ring. Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Beef Production Entrepreneurship is one of 47 proficiency awards presented at state level. The Missouri Cattlemen’s Association sponsored this award. The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has more than 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
