Moore from Perryville FFA chapter named Area 15 Star Farmer

JEFERSON CITY, Mo., April 24, 2020-The Missouri FFA Association recognized Luke Moore of the Perryville FFA Chapter as the Area 15 Star Farmer. His parents are Jarret and Sherry Moore of Perryville. His advisors are Tom Hulshof and Laura Neislein.

Area Star Farmers are chosen based upon outstanding production agriculture in the student's supervised agricultural experience program and active participation in FFA. Area 15 includes 21 chapters in the Southeast District.

MFA Inc., Columbia, sponsors the 16 area Star Farmer awards and the State Star Farmer Award.

Moore’s SAE is focused on cattle production. His cattle business actually started when he was eight and was given five Simmental heifers. When he entered his freshman year, he had a herd of 21 head. Since then, his herd expanded to 25. He makes all the management decisions for his cattle operation. In addition to raising cattle, Moore exhibits his cattle at local and district fairs.

Moore serves as chapter chaplain. He competed at the state level in the nursery/landscape career development event. He attended the National FFA Convention & Expo; State FFA Leadership Camp; Lead, Educate, Advance, Develop Conference for Chapter Officers; and Greenhand Motivational Conference.

In addition to FFA, Moore participates in football, and track and field, and is a member of the A+ Program. Outside of school, he is a member of the Benton 4-H Club, and St. Lawrence Cathlotic Church’s youth group and men’s group.

After graduating high school, Moore’s plans include studying agricultural business and animal science at Southeast Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau. Moore said he hopes to have a career in animal product sales and continue growing his cattle herd.

The Missouri FFA has 25,945 members representing 348 chapters. The national organization has more than 700,000 members representing 8,612 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
