End CDEEntomology2nd Bakersfield-4042 Photo available at: http://agebb.missouri.edu/news/moffaconv/CDE/pics/IMG_4042.JPG BAKERSFIELD ENTOMOLOGY TEAM PLACES SECOND AT STATE COLUMBIA , Mo., April 17, 2009 - The Bakersfield FFA Chapter placed second in the Entomology Career Development Event at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention. There were 48 teams in the competition. The team members were Shane Belt, Shaina Blackaby, Robbie Kirkland and Brandy Sanders. Out of 184 individuals competing, Kirkland ranked third, Blackaby ranked sixth, Vaught ranked 10th and Belt ranked 17th. The Bakersfield advisor is Matt Pendergrass. The entomology teams take a written exam on pesticide application and safety regulations as well as identify species of insects. Sponsored by University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, this contest is one way the FFA prepares student members for career success. Career development events engage student learning and make a real connection to lifetime goals. The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has more than 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
