McGhee named Area 16 Star in Placement

COLUMBIA , Mo. , April 16, 2009 – The Missouri FFA Association recognized Arby McGhee of the Couch FFA Chapter as the Area 16 Star in Placement at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention. He is the son of Quentin and Carla Denney of Couch, Mo. His advisor is Pam Proffitt- Rowland.

 

Area Stars in Placement are selected based upon outstanding achievement in work experience in an agriculture business as part of a student’s Supervised Agricultural Experience Program and active participation in FFA. Area 16 covers 17 chapters in the South East District.

 

MFA Inc., Columbia, sponsors the 16 Area Star in Placement awards.

 

McGhee’s supervised agricultural experience program consisted of mostly fence building and brush clearing jobs his freshman year. At the end of his sophomore year, McGhee began roofing houses along with continuing to build fence. He also has hauled hay for several different people in his home town. Throughout high school he has worked for his grandfather on their family farm. He is currently employed as a cook at a local restaurant.

 

McGhee has served as chapter reporter two years. McGhee has participated in the Missouri Farm Bureau Public speaking contest at the state level as well as in the MIC speaking contest. He has participated in the livestock, dairy foods and parliamentary procedure Career Development events. He has attended Washington Leadership Conference as well as participated in the leadership adventure. McGhee has attended State FFA camp for three years.

 

McGhee is a member of BETA club, FBLA and FCCLA. He was the vice president of his district FBLA. He also played baseball for three years and was named to Who’s Who Among America’s High School Students.

 

After high school graduation McGhee plans to pursue an associate’s degree in Agricultural Business. He then hopes to earn a degree in engineering and change to worl of agriculture for the better.

 

The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has over 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
