GOODSPEED FROM THE NORTHWEST MISSOURI TECHNICAL SCHOOL RECOGNIZED AS AREA 1 STAR FARMER

COLUMBIA , Mo., April 16, 2009 - The Missouri FFA Association recognized Will Goodspeed of the Northwest Missouri Technical School as Area 1 Star Farmer at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention. He is the son of Alan and Delma Goodspeed of Maryville, Mo. His advisor is Jackie Lacy.

 

Area Star Farmers are chosen based upon outstanding production agriculture for the student’s Supervised Agriculture Experience Program and active participation in FFA. Area 1 covers 26 chapters in the Northwest District.

 

MFA Inc., Columbia, sponsors the 16 Area Star Farmer awards.

 

Goodspeed’s supervised agricultural experience program began with 10 cattle, 130 acres of pasture and hay and 25 acres of corn. In 2008, he expanded his operation to 26 breeding cows, one Angus bull and their offspring.

 

Goodspeed has served as chapter sentinel, chapter vice president and chapter president. He has competed in the State FFA Livestock and Farm Management Career Development events. Goodspeed received a Group I Individual rating in the State FFA Livestock CDE. He has attended the National FFA Convention, State FFA Convention and has exhibited at the Missouri State Fair.

 

Goodspeed has been a member of the National Honor Society. He has participated on his high school football team for four years, baseball team for team for two years and was on the track team last year. Goodspeed also is a member of the United Methodist Church .

 

After high school graduation, he plans to study animal science and agricultural business at Missouri State University . He hopes to attain a career in agriculture with the government.

 

The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has more than 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
