Yang Receives Second Place Missouri FFA Poultry Production Proficiency Award

COLUMBIA , Mo., April 16, 2008 – Yeng Yang of Rocky Comfort, Mo., a member of the Wheaton FFA Chapter, received the second place Poultry Production Proficiency Award at the 81st annual Missouri FFA Convention.

 

Yang is the son of Toua and Chao Yang. His FFA advisor is Eric Roller.

 

As an FFA member, Yang attended the 2008 National FFA Convention and was a National Livestock Show exhibitor in the FFA division in 2007.  Yang has participated in the State FFA leadership camp and the Leadership Adventure as well as other area and state events.  Yang is also a member of STUCO and the National Honors Society.  

 

Yang’s Supervised Agriculture Experience (SAE) program came as a necessity to help his father with the family poultry farm.  Currently, Yang’s main responsibilities are to manage the feeding of baby chicks and wash feed trays according to Tyson guidelines.  Yang also maintains a small swine operation.  Yang’s SAE has enhanced his responsibility and work ethic.  Yang plans to follow a career in the poultry industry after pursuing a degree in poultry science from the University of Arkansas . 

 

Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Poultry production is one of 47 proficiency awards awarded at the state level. The Poultry Federation sponsors this award.

 

The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters.  The national organization has more than 500,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
