Wheaton FFA Poultry Team Places Third at State
COLUMBIA , Mo., April 16, 2009 - The Wheaton FFA Chapter placed third in the FFA Poultry Career Development Event at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention. There were 48 teams in the competition.
The third place team members are Shannon Burns, Alex Lee, Shai Lee and Samantha Pierce. Pierce placed first, Burns 10th and Alex Lee 13th out of 179 individuals. The Wheaton FFA advisor is Eric Roller.
The poultry teams evaluate, identify and present their findings on live production hens, ready-to-cook turkeys, processed poultry products, cartons of eggs and broiler parts. In addition, a multiple-choice test and a problem-solving section on poultry management and production are included in the scoring.
Sponsored by University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, this contest is one way the FFA prepares student members for career success. Career development events engage student learning and make a real connection to lifetime goals.
