Missouri FFA News Releases

COLUMBIA , Mo. , April 17, 2009 - The Tipton FFA Chapter placed second place in the FFA Agricultural Sales Career Development Event at the 81^th Missouri FFA Convention. There were 24 teams in the competition.

The Tipton team members are Emily Brant, Callie Doss, Taylor Huhmann and Shane Patten. Patten ranked second, Brant ranked third, Doss ranked seventh and Huhmann ranked 10th out of 91 individuals. The Tipton FFA Advisors are Duane Melton and Gary Morris.

Entries include an individual sales presentation and team sales situation for an agricultural product. Competitors also are asked to demonstrate their ability to relate to customers, prospect for customers and carry out promotions. Finishing first means these students can successfully apply classroom learning to real-life situations.

Sponsored by University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, this contest is one way the FFA prepares student members for career success. Career development events engage student learning and make a real connection to lifetime goals.

The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has more than 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
