Westermier from Tipton named Area 8 Star in Placement

COLUMBIA , Mo. , April 16, 2009 – The Missouri FFA Association recognized Nathan Westermier of the Tipton FFA Chapter as the Area 8 Star in Placement at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention. He is the son of Mark and Sheri Westermier of Tipton, Mo. His advisors are Duane Melton and Gary Morris.

 

Area Stars in Placement are selected based upon outstanding achievement in work experience in an agriculture business as part of a student’s Supervised Agricultural Experience Program and active participation in FFA. Area 8 covers 21 chapters in the Central District.

 

MFA Inc., Columbia, sponsors the 16 Area Star in Placement awards.

 

Westermier Supervised Agriculture Experience Program consisted of working as an assistant manager at a fast food chain and at Burger’s Smokehouse in California, Missouri . In addition, Westermier raises row crops with his father.

 

Westermier has served as the assistant chapter vice president, chapter chaplain, treasurer, and vice president. He has been selected as a Tipton Top Thirty member in 2007 and 2008. Westermier has also participated in the Knowledge, Agronomy, Parliamentary Procedure, and Agriculture Mechanics career development events. Westermier was named the 2008 Area Grain Production-Entrepreneur Proficiency winner and the 2009 Area Oil and Fiber Crop Production Proficiency winner.

 

While in high school, Westermier was involved with the varsity football and wrestling teams. Westermier was also a Tipton High School honor roll member and a renaissance club card holder.

 

Westermier is currently serving in the United States Navy.

 

The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has over 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
