Photo cutline: Staci Hentges, of the California FFA Chapter, wins first place Nursery Operations Award during the 81st Missouri FFA Convention in Columbia, Mo., April 16-17. -END- NurseryOps1stHentges0222caption Photo available at: http://agebb.missouri.edu/news/moffaconv/ProfWin/pics/IMG_0222.JPG Hentges Receives First Place in the 2009 Missouri FFA Nursery Operations Entrepreneurship Proficiency Award COLUMBIA , Mo., April 16, 2009 –Staci Hentges, member of the California FFA Chapter, California Mo., was named the first place winner of the Nursery Operations Entrepreneurship/Placement Proficiency Award at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention. Hentges, a graduate at California R-1 High School, is the daughter of Roy and Denise Hentges. Her FFA Advisors are Lee Longan and Adam Bieri. Hentges has had many great accomplishments while in FFA. In 2006, Hentges won the Area Floriculture Proficiency award. In addition to her Nursery Operations proficiency, Hentges has participated in the knowledge and agronomy career development events at area and district level. Outside of FFA, Hentges has been a member of the National Honor Society and a member of the California Math Team. Hentges’ Supervised Agricultural Experience Program (SAE) began when she was employed at Longfellow’s Garden Center . She worked there for four years. She has been responsible for setting up displays for perennials, retail and shade house, walkways, and in front of the building. Hentges has learned how to be patient, responsible, and safe. She has learned how to work around thorns, acid and chemicals used on plants. Hentges’ is attending the University of Missouri studying horticulture. She plans to work as a landscape architect. Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Nursery Operations Entrepreneurship/Placement is one of 47 proficiencies awarded at the state level. The Missouri Landscape and Nursery Association sponsors this award. The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has more than 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
