Missouri FFA News Releases

COLUMBIA , Mo. , April 16, 2009 – The Missouri FFA Association recognized Timothy Jones of the East Prairie FFA Chapter as the Area 15 Star in Placement at the 81^st Missouri FFA Convention. He is the son of Timothy and Tracy Jones of East Prairie, Mo.

Area Stars in Placement are selected based upon outstanding achievement in work experience in an agriculture business as part of a student’s Supervised Agricultural Experience Program and active participation in FFA. Area 15 covers 16 chapters in the South East District.

MFA Inc., Columbia, sponsors the 15 Area Star in Placement awards.

Jones’s supervised agricultural experience began when he started working for his grandfather at his family’s farm. Jones is responsible for feeding the cattle, horses and chickens. Before entering high school, Jones worked for members of his family planting, cultivating and assisting with the harvest of various field crops. By his junior year of high school, Jones started working for MRM Farms.

Jones has competed in floriculture, soils and the farm management career development events. He has coordinated the Food for America Program, teaching elementary students about agriculture for to years in a row. Jones manages the school greenhouse and is very instrumental in securing hay and straw for different activities at the local level.

After high school graduation Jones plans to continue working for MRM Farms and hopes to eventually become foreman or even a manager of the farm business. He is considering pursuing a degree in Agriculture Education.

The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has over 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .

The FFA Mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
