HOLLOWAY NAMED STATE WINNER MISSOURI FFA TURF GRASS MANAGEMENT PROFICIENCY AWARD

COLUMBIA , Mo., April 16, 2009 – Brice Holloway, a member of the McDonald Co. FFA Chapter, Anderson, Mo., was named the state winner of the FFA Turf Grass Management Proficiency Award at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention. 

 

Holloway, a graduate of McDonald Co. High School, is the son of David and Julie Holloway.  His advisors are Will Gordon, Rob Hall and Brian Nelson.

 

As a member of the McDonald Co. FFA, Holloway was named state winner of the National Agriculture Services Proficiency Award in 2008. He also received a group 1 rating in the state poultry contest. In 2007 he participated on the National Western Livestock and Meats contest in Denver, Co. and received the National FFA Triangle Award.

 

Holloway’s Supervised Agriculture Experience (SAE) program began when he started his lawn mowing business. This experience has helped him improve his business and yard grooming skills. In the future, he plans to continue expanding his lawn service into a comprehensive landscaping business. He will be using profits from the business to help pay for college expenses while pursuing a degree in agricultural business.  

 

Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Turf Grass Management is one of 47 proficiency awards presented at the state level. The Crader Distributing Company – BME STIHL sponsored this award.

 

The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters.  The national organization has more than 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
