HOLLOWAY FROM THE MCDONALD COUNTY FFA CHAPTER, RECOGNIZED AS AREA 11 STAR IN AGRIBUSINESS COLUMBIA, Mo., April 16, 2009 - The Missouri FFA Association named Brice Holloway of Anderson, Mo., a member of the McDonald Co. FFA Chapter, as Area 11 Star in Agribusiness at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention. His parents are David and Julie Holloway. His advisors are Will Gordon, Rob Hall, and Brian Nelson. Area Star in Agribusiness is based on outstanding agribusiness activities as part of the student’s Supervised Agricultural Experience Program and FFA leadership activities. Area 11 covers 16 chapters in the Southwest District. MFA Inc., Columbia, sponsors the Area Star in Agribusiness awards. Holloway’s SAE program began by with a job at a landscape business. When the owner decided to get out of the business, it gave Brice the perfect opportunity to develop his own business. He purchased a quality mower and started going door-to-door to market his business. He started mowing nine yards and has expanded to 35. Holloway has served as chapter vice president for two years. He has competed on four state-qualifying teams, one of which received second place in the livestock career development event. He competed at the National Western Livestock Show in Denver . He has competed at the district level in Parliamentary Procedure. Holloway received the 2008 Missouri FFA Agricultural Services Proficiency Award. In 2007, Holloway received the National Triangle Award. He has attended Washington Leadership Conference and National FFA Convention. He also has shown at county, area, district and state fairs. Holloway has been a member of the National Honor Society and served as president in 2007. He has been involved in the math and Spanish clubs, University of Missouri Extension 4-H and his church. Holloway is studying education at Crowder College . During the summer he continues his lawn-mowing services. After graduation, he will continue his education at the University of Arkansas and hopes to begin building his own beef operation. The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has over 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
