Chance Shetley Second Place Winner 2009 Missouri FFA Ag Mechanics Repair and Maintenance Entrepreneurship and Placement Proficiency Award

COLUMBIA , Mo., April 16, 2009 – Chance Shetley of the Fredericktown FFA Chapter, Fredericktown, Mo., was named the second place winner of the FFA Agricultural Mechanics Repair and Maintenance Entrepreneurship and Placement Award at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention.

 

Shetley, a graduate of Fredericktown R-1 High School, is the son of James and Paula Shetley. His FFA advisors are Tom Mooney and Mike Graham. Shetley has participated in numerous FFA events and activities including National FFA convention in 2007and State FFA convention in 2008.

 

Shetley started his Supervised Agriculture Experience Program (SAE) on his family farm. Shetley’s duties consisted of keeping the machinery maintained such as oil changes, filter changes and cleaning. Shetley also worked at his Uncle’s local STIHL dealership. Shetley’s responsibilities are working on chainsaws, trimmers and leaf blowers. He also helps with customer service.

 

Shetley is attending classes at Linn State Technical College . He is striving for an associate’s degree of applied science in the Caterpillar Dealer Technician courses. After completing his degree, he plans to work for a Caterpillar dealer and be involved in the family farm.

 

Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Agricultural Mechanics Repair and Maintenance and Entrepreneurship and Placement Combined Award are two of 47 proficiency awards presented at state level. Ahrens Steel and Welding Supply sponsored this award.

 

The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has over 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
