KERR WINS MISSOURI FFA GRAIN PRODUCTION PLACEMENT PROFICIENCY AWARD

COLUMBIA ,   Mo., April 16, 2009 – Aaron Kerr of the Chillicothe FFA Chapter, Chillicothe, Mo., was named the state winner of the Grain Production Placement Proficiency Award at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention.

 

Kerr, a high school junior, is the son of David and Brenda Kerr. His FFA advisors are Rusty Black, Leda Schreiner, Jim Grozinger, Keith Dietzschold.

 

As an FFA member, Kerr has participated in numerous events on the chapter, district, state, and national levels. He attended national and state FFA conventions and the State FFA Leadership Camp. He was a member of the National FFA Courtesy Corps and was an exhibitor at the Missouri State Fair.

 

Kerr’s Supervised Agricultural Experience Program (SAE) involves working on his family’s row crop farm. After working on the farm for several years without pay, Kerr officially was hired by K Farms, Inc. Kerr has learned to service and maintain all equipment. He also has learned the importants of chemical handling.  Kerr’s SAE, he has learned skills in chemical management as well as learning how to operate varying pieces of farm equipment.

 

Kerr’s future plans include attending the University of Missouri studying Agronomy. He plans to eventually with his brother.

 

Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Grain Production is one of 47 proficiency award areas recognized at the state level. The Missouri Corn Growers Association sponsored this award.

 

The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has more than 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands.
