KIEHL FROM THE MEADVILLE FFA CHAPTER RECOGNIZED IN AREA 3 AS A STAR IN AGRIBUSINESS COLUMBIA, Mo., April 16, 2009 - The Missouri FFA Association named April Kiehl of the Meadville FFA Chapter, as Area 3 Star in Agribusiness at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention. Her parents are Don and Lori Kiehl of Meadville, Mo. Her advisors are Jeff Haley and Neal Wolf. Area Star in Agribusiness is based on outstanding agribusiness activities as part of the student’s Supervised Agricultural Experience Program and FFA leadership activities. Area 3 covers 22 chapters in the Northeast District. MFA Inc., Columbia, sponsors the Area Star in Agribusiness awards. Kiehl’s SAE program began when she started working for her parents in their pecan business, where she gathered the nuts from the orchard and washed, cracked and sold them. She also makes pecan candies and markets them during the winter holiday season. She was promoted to manager in her freshman year. Kiehl has served as the area secretary, chapter president and chapter secretary. She has competed on the state level in extemporaneous public speaking and agronomy career development events. She also participated in floriculture, creed speaking and fall public speaking career development events. Kiehl has attended State FFA and National FFA conventions and has served on the State and National FFA Convention Courtesy Corps. Kiehl has been a member of National Honor Society for the past two years. She has been on the high school honor roll for four years. Kiehl also has served on student council and is currently the vice president. She has participated in varsity track, and is the senior class secretary. After high school, Kiehl plans to study agribusiness and agricultural economics at Northwest Missouri State University . April hopes to become a member of a management team for a large agricultural business. The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has over 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
