Photo available at: http://agebb.missouri.edu/news/moffaconv/CDE/pics/IMG_1633.JPG Miller FFA Poultry Team Places Second At State COLUMBIA , Mo. , April 16, 2009 - The Miller FFA Chapter placed second in the FFA Poultry Career Development Event at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention. There were 48 teams in the competition. The winning team members are Kelsey Allen, Austin Steele, Emily Whitmarsh and Samantha Whittaker. Whittaker ranked fourth, Whitmarsh fifth, Steele 11th and Allen 27th out of 179 individuals. The Miller FFA advisors are Jay Shepherd and Lyle Whittaker. The poultry teams evaluate, identify and present their findings on live production hens, ready-to-cook turkeys, processed poultry products, cartons of eggs and broiler parts. In addition, a multiple-choice test and a problem-solving section on poultry management and production are included in the scoring. Sponsored by University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, this contest is one way the FFA prepares student members for career success. Career development events engage student learning and make a real connection to lifetime goals. The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has more than 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
