PETERS, FROM THE SANTA FE FFA CHAPTER RECOGNIZED AS AREA 6 STAR IN AGRIBUSINESS

COLUMBIA, Mo., April 16, 2009 - The Missouri FFA Association named Kate Peters of Waverly, Mo., a member of the Santa Fe FFA Chapter, as Area 6 Star in Agribusiness at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention. Her parents are Paul and Nancy Peters. Her advisors are Martha Wyssmann and John Morgan.

 

Area Star in Agribusiness is based on outstanding agribusiness activities as part of the student’s Supervised Agricultural Experience Program and FFA leadership activities. Area 6 covers 18 chapters in the Central District.

 

MFA Inc., Columbia, sponsors the Area Star in Agribusiness awards.

 

Peters’ SAE programs began when she started working at the family-owned orchard and fruit market. She began using the fruit to create jams and jellies. During her first year, she produced six flavors. This past year, she added four flavors, including two that feature wines from a local winery. In addition to the family market, her products are sold at four locations, the Agri-Missouri store at the Missouri State Fair and on her Web site. In the past, she had contracted with LC Fundraising and two FFA chapters to sell products.

 

Peters is the chapter vice president. She also has served as chapter secretary. She has competed in the horse evaluation and landscape and nursery career development events. She attended State FFA Leadership Camp, where she received her State Leadership Pin and the Missouri Conservation Award. She performed in the State FFA Choir at the State FFA Convention. She attended Leadership Adventure – Advancing New Frontiers. In 2008, she received the second-place Area 6 fruit production entrepreneurship proficiency award. She also is very active in the Santa Fe FFA Chapter activities.

 

Peters is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish club, speech and drama, scrapbooking club, Chief’s Club, cheerleading, softball and track. She has been on the honor roll her entire high school career.

 

After graduation, she plans to study agricultural education and agricultural management at the University of Missouri . She plans to teach high school vocational agriculture and remain active in the family orchard business.

 

The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has over 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
