Oelrichs of Higginsville FFA Chapter named finalist for State Star in Placement

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., April 24, 2020 - The Missouri FFA Association announced Cole Emerson Oelrichs of the Higginsville FFA as one of four finalists for the State Star in Placement. The other finalists are Tate Snyder, Green City FFA Chapter; Garrett Paul Schuering, Centralia FFA Chapter; and Clint Thomas Bailey, Bowling Green FFA Chapter.


Finalists for State Stars in Placement were selected based upon outstanding achievement in work experience in an agricultural business as part of a student's supervised agricultural experience program and active participation in FFA. The winner of the State Star in Placement will be revealed at a summer event.

 

MFA Inc., Columbia, sponsors the 16 area Star in Placement awards as well as the State Star in Placement Award.

 

Cole Emerson Oelrichs - Area 6

 

Cole Emerson Oelrichs is a member of the Higginsville FFA Chapter. Oelrichs' supervised agricultural experience program started at Cretzmeyer Farms, his uncle’s diversified crop and livestock operation. His responsibilities include feeding and vaccinating cattle, baling hay, and maintaining the farmstead. Oelrichs said he is trusted to make daily farm-management decisions. Oelrichs is the son of William and Paula Oelrichs of Higginsville. His advisors are Adam Brock, Savannah Taylor and Stephanie Carpenter.


Tate Snyder - Area 3

 

Tate Snyder is a member of the Green City FFA Chapter. Snyder’s supervised agricultural experience program began his freshman year with employment at 3 Star Farms, a beef cattle operation. Now, he is the farm manager and does everything for the herd including feeding, tagging, banding, weighing, transporting, culling, and checking fences and pastures. He also works at Sullivan County Farm Supply where he mixes and bags feed rations, and assists customers with purchases of farm supplies. Snyder is the son of Greg and Barb Snyder of Green City. His advisors are Tim Davis and Becky Tipton.

 

Garrett Paul Schuering - Area 4

 

Garrett Paul Schuering is a member of the Centralia FFA Chapter. Schuering’s supervised agricultural experience program began with helping other youth at local fairs prepare projects for presentation. He now works for McBride Angus, Centralia; Herron Brothers, LLC, Mexico; and S&L Angus, Thompson. Schuering is responsible for all phases of the beef operations including nutrition, genetic selection, calving and show preparation. He spends nearly 1,000 hours every year working with these operations’ 400 head of cattle. Schuering is the son of Brent and Melanie Schuering of Thompson. His advisors are Scott Stone, Lori Lewis and Kelsay Bruns.

 

Clint Thomas Bailey - Area 5

 

Clint Thomas Bailey is a member of the Bowling Green FFA Chapter. Bailey’s supervised agricultural experience program began with working on this family’s commercial cow-calf operation. He then was hired to work at his cousin’s pumpkin patch. When his cousin went to college, he turned the pumpkin patch over to Bailey. His sophomore year, Bailey started working at the Bowling Green Veterinary Clinic. He walked dogs, cleaned kennels and ensured animals had proper food and water. He was then given the responsibility to provide veterinary services at the Eastern Missouri Commission Company, Bowling Green, sale barn. Bailey’s duties then expanded to making large-animal farm calls. Bailey is the son of Ryan and Melissa Bailey of Curryville. His advisors are Brett Waddell, Jason Davis and Matt Graves.


The Missouri FFA has 25,945 members representing 348 chapters. The national organization has more than 700,000 members representing 8,612 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
