Swaim of Audrain County R-VI FFA Chapter is named Area 5 Star in Agribusiness

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., April 24, 2020 — The Missouri FFA Association recognized Braedon Swaim of the Audrain County R-VI FFA Chapter as the Area 5 Star in Agribusiness. Swaim is the son of Jamie and Brenda Swaim. His advisors are Stacy French and Britton Francis.

 

Area Stars in Agribusiness are selected based upon outstanding achievement in work experience in an agricultural business as part of a student's supervised agricultural experience program and active participation in FFA. Area 5 includes 19 chapters in the Northeast District.

 

MFA Inc., Columbia, sponsors the 16 area Star in Agribusiness awards as well as the State Star in Agribusiness Award.

 

Swaim’s SAE began when he started his own lawn mowing business, Swaim Mowing Services.The majority of his business comes from mowing and maintaining the yard and landscaping at Martinsburg Post Office.

 

Swaim served as chapter assistant  treasurer. Swaim also has competed in dairy cattle, meats evaluation, and nursery/landscaping career development events. Swaim was the Missouri FFA Nursery Operations Proficiency Award winner in 2018 and has won area proficiencies in landscape management, turf grass management, and home and community development. He also has been a four-year member of the trapshooting team and an exhibitor at the area, district and state fairs.


In addition to FFA, Swaim has been a four-year member of the Community R-VI baseball team and the Future Business Leaders of America. He also is a two-year member of the Hart Career Center Diesel Technology program and an active member in SkillsUSA. Swaim also has been a member of the STRIVE organization and a youth group member at Martinsburg Community Church.

 

After graduating high school, Swaim’s plans include attending State Technical College of Missouri, Linn, to study in heavy equipment operation. Swaim said he plans to pursue a career operating heavy equipment and driving semis for a company near Martinsburg, Missouri.


The Missouri FFA has 25,945 members representing 348 chapters. The national organization has more than 700,000 members representing 8,612 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
