COLLINS WINS SECOND IN MISSOURI FFA GRAIN PRODUCTION PLACEMENT PROFICIENCY AWARD

COLUMBIA , Mo., April 16, 2009 – Codey Collins of the Willow Springs FFA Chapter, Willow Springs, Mo., was named the second place state winner of the Grain Production Placement Proficiency Award at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention.

 

Collins, a senior at Willow Springs High School, is the son of Donnie and Mary Collins. His FFA advisor is Nathan C. Sanders.

 

As an FFA member, Collins has participated in numerous events on the chapter, district, state, and national levels. He attended National and State FFA conventions and University of Missouri Field Day . He was a member of the State FFA Courtesy Corps and was a participant in the greenhand motivational conference.

 

Collins’s Supervised Agricultural Experience Program (SAE) involves working on his family’s row crop farm. Collins has learned all the skills required to operate a row crop operation including proper fertilizing, planting, harvesting, and storage procedures.

 

 After high school Collins plans to attend college and pursue a degree in agricultural education.

 

Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Grain Production is one of 47 proficiency award areas recognized at the state level. The Missouri Corn Growers Association sponsored this award.

 

The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has more than 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .

 

The FFA Mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
