DPEntre-Schmidt -101-3845 Photo available at: http://agebb.missouri.edu/news/moffaconv/ProfWin/pics/IMG_3845.JPG Schmidt Wins First Place Missouri FFA Dairy Production Entrepreneurship Proficiency Award Columbia, Mo, April 16, 2009–Emily Schmidt, of the Trenton FFA Chapter, Trenton, Mo, was named first place winner of the Dairy Production Entrepreneurship Proficiency Award at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention. Schmidt is a graduate of Trenton R-IX High School . She is the daughter of Larry and Carolyn Schmidt. Her FFA advisors are Brook Kreatz and Erika Swindler. As an FFA member, Schmidt has attended state and national conventions, the Washington Leadership Conference and the Missouri Agribusiness Academy . Outside of FFA, she is a member of National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, and Family, Community and Career Leaders of America. Schmidt began her Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) in dairy production when she started working on her parent’s farm. She is now working on her parents’ farm full time during weekends and part time during the week. Her work consists of milking cows, sanitizing the equipment, cleaning the barn and feeding cows. These responsibilities require excellent communication skills in order to coordinate chores and allow her farm to run smoothly. Schmidt plans to continue increasing her herd and gaining knowledge. She is currently attending North Central Missouri College . Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Dairy Production Entrepreneurship is one of 47 proficiency awards presented at the state level. This award is sponsored by the Midwest Dairy Association. The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has more than 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
