LOGAN-ROGERSVILLE FFA WINS TOP CHAPTER AWARD COLUMBIA, Mo., April 16, 2008 – Logan-Rogersville FFA placed 22nd out of 317 chapters in the state, earning a Top Chapter Award at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention. Only 10 percent of state chapters receive the Top Chapter Award each year. Chapter activity awards, sponsored by FCS Financial, are given to chapters achieving excellence in student, chapter and community development. Logan-Rogersville FFA Chapter advisors are Chad Bybee and Jayson Shriver. The Logan-Rogersville FFA student development activities included sending members to leadership development events at local, state and national levels. Newly acquired skills were shared with other chapter members. An agricultural education college prep workshop was also held for the students. Chapter development activities are designed to promote excellence within the chapter. Logan-Rogersville conducted several leadership days to share knowledge with other students. A team made presentations for the Building for Success FFA Recruitment Campaign. Members used various visual aids to educate students regarding agriculture and FFA. Chapter members also traveled to Kansas City, Mo., for the Teaching to Lead, Leading to Teach leadership program. With the help of American Royal staff, 20 members helped educate elementary students about agriculture and how it relates to them. Logan-Rogersville’s community development activities included St. Jude’s Drive for Kids which raised money for cancer research. The chapter sponsored a Donkey Basketball game to help their local radio station raise $100,000. Members also conducted a community agricultural awareness project. This presentation educated local students and parents about the dangers of working with farm equipment, animals and chemicals. The top chapters are submitted to the National FFA Organization where they compete for the National FFA Chapter Award. The competition will be this fall at the National FFA convention in Indianapolis, Ind. The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has over 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands.
