Hartley named Second Place in the 2009 Missouri FFA Environmental Science and Natural Resources Management Proficiency Award

COLUMBIA , Mo., April 16, 2009 – Mason Hartley, of the Fair Grove FFA Chapter, Fair Grove, Mo., named second in the state Environmental Science and Natural Resources Management Proficiency Award at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention.

 

Hartley, a senior at Fair Grove High School, is the son of Miles and Tina Hartley. His advisors are Matt Crutcher and Rachel Hunter.

 

As an FFA member, Hartley has participated in national and state conventions. On the state level, Hartley has participated as a FFA convention delegate and as part of the Soils Career Development Event. Hartley is also an Eagle Scout and an active member of the Boy Scouts. 

 

Hartley’s Supervised Agricultural Experience Program (SAE) involves his work in the seed and straw business. Hartley has worked with his business to devise the pricing for their services. Hartley also manages the jobs and performs general maintenance on the equipment. Hartley plans to continue in this line of work in the future.

 

Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Environmental Science and Natural Resources Management is one of 47 proficiency awards presented at state level and was sponsored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

 

The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has more than 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
