Schneider of Hermann FFA Chapter named Area 14 Star in Agribusiness

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., April 24, 2020 ó The Missouri FFA Association recognized Megan Schneider of the Hermann FFA Chapter as the Area 14 Star in Agribusiness. Schneider is the daughter of Jon and Cheryl Carey of Hermann. Her advisors are Doug Ridder and Tracy Vedder.

Area Stars in Agribusiness are selected based upon outstanding achievement in work experience in an agricultural business as part of a student's supervised agricultural experience program and active participation in FFA. Area 14 includes 20 chapters in the South Central District.

MFA Inc., Columbia, sponsors the 16 area Star in Agribusiness awards as well as the State Star in Agribusiness Award.

Schneiderís SAE started with showing pigs. Eventually she started breeding and raising show pigs and feeder pigs. As her business grew, Schneider started selling a variety of pork meat products at local farmer markets and other outlets. Over time, Schneider has expanded her selection to include various beef and poultry products.

Schneider has served as chapter president and vice president, as well as area reporter. She competed at the national level in the farm management career development event and at the state level in the meats evaluation and livestock evaluation CDEs. Schneider attended the National FFA Convention and Expo, and Washington Leadership Conference.

In addition to FFA, Schneider serves as class president and is involved with National Honor Society; Family, Career and Community Leaders of America; and varsity basketball. She also serves as the current Gasconade County Fair queen.

After graduating high school, Schneiderís plans include studying biochemistry at East Central College, Union, before transferring to the University of Missouri, Columbia. She said she hopes to eventually work as a biochemist or an agricultural lawyer.

The Missouri FFA has 25,945 members representing 348 chapters. The national organization has more than 700,000 members representing 8,612 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
