Eckstein, of the Union FFA Chapter, Beaufort, Mo., was named the state winner of the Diversified Livestock Production Placement Proficiency Award at the 81st Missouri FFA Convention. Eckstein is the son of John and JoAnn Eckstein. His advisors are Ms. Blair, Mr. Gross, and Mrs. Hellebush. As an FFA member, Eckstein has attended national FFA convention and state FFA convention. He participated in the National and State FFA convention Courtesy Corps and won the Diversified Livestock Entrepreneurship Proficiency Award. He also attended state FFA leadership camp. Eckstein’s Supervised Agricultural Experience consists of working on Eckstein Farms. After overcoming family losses, Eckstein has taken over the responsibilities of the family farm. He cares for animals, bails hay, and plants crops. By doing this, he has learned hard work and animal husbandry skills while caring for cattle, dogs, cats, poultry and horses. During his SAE, he has purchased and sold numerous animals, and also sold hides he obtained while hunting with his coon dogs. Eckstein hopes to return to the farm and purchase a milk truck as early as next year. Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Diversified Livestock Production Entrepreneurship is one of 47 proficiency awards presented at state level. The Missouri Livestock Marketing Association sponsored this award. The Missouri FFA has 24,410 members representing 317 chapters. The national organization has over 507,000 members representing 7,439 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands .
