MU Extension honors St. Clair for work with Northland Neighborhoods

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Charles St. Clair, University of Missouri Extension community development specialist, received the Vice Provost's Award for Outstanding Achievement, Oct. 30. He was recognized for his work with Northland Neighborhoods Inc.

St. Clair was instrumental in helping NNI establish the EXCEL leadership program. The leadership development program gave participants insight into local and state government, community infrastructure, demographics, educational systems, public safety, social services, leadership methods and communication skills.

Since the program ended in spring 2008, many graduates have gone on to serve on the boards of other organizations and started projects to improve their neighborhoods.

The EXCEL program recently received a $10,000 grant from the William T. Kemper Foundation and Commerce Bank to start a second leadership class, which begins in January 2009.
