MU Extension, Farm Bureau honor Travnichek

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Rebecca Travnichek, University of Missouri Extension family financial education specialist in Savannah, Mo., recently received two awards ? the 2008 Outstanding Human Environmental Sciences Specialist Award from the Missouri Farm Bureau Federation and the Carl N. Scheneman Excellence in Teaching Award.

Travnichek was nominated for the outstanding specialist award by the MU Extension Council and Farm Bureau in Andrew County. The award recognizes MU Extension faculty members for service to their community.

Travnichek has been teaching financial management in Andrew County for 12 years. First- graders have learned about needs, wants and choices through the Money Apron. Women incarcerated at Chillicothe Correctional Center have learned the basic principles of goal setting, saving, spending and budgeting. Rural women have learned how to manage the farm through Annie's Project an. And families have learned to save for their children's educations.

She also was recognized by her extension colleagues. The Scheneman teaching award was presented for her work with the women incarcerated at the Chillicothe Correctional Center. , where she has taught personal finance skills to inmates.

The program, Steps to Financial Success, covers basic skills in record keeping, spending, credit management and communication.
