Schmitz honored by Missouri Farm Bureau

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Gene Schmitz, University of Missouri Extension livestock specialist in Warsaw, Mo., received the 2008 Outstanding Agriculturalist Award from the Missouri Farm Bureau Federation, Oct. 28. The MU Extension Council and Farm Bureau in Benton County nominated Schmitz.

The Outstanding Agriculturalist Award recognizes MU Extension faculty members for service to agriculture in their community.

Schmitz has been instrumental in organizing educational programs on such topics as fence law and taxes, providing cattle producers with forage production and management information, assisting with grazing schools and helping establish a goat market in the area.

Schmitz also works with young people, providing quality assurance training for 4-H members who show livestock at local fairs.
