Missouri's Milk Cow Population Rising

From the time period of January 2001 to October 2005, Missouri has seen a decrease in milk cows in most months. After October 2005, this decrease in milk cows leveled off and turned into an increase in milk cow population after March 2006. As of May 2006, Missouri currently has 116,000 milk cows. This spring's increase in cow numbers is likely due to the startup of several new large grazing dairies in southwest Missouri. Those dairies will be featured in tours during the Missouri Dairy Grazing Conference to be held, July 6-8, 2006.
