Corn versus Dried Distillers Grains --
Historical Price Relationships

Question: What is the historical relationship between the price of corn versus dried distillers grains (DDGS)?

Answer: The graph below depicts the declining price of a ton of DDGS relative to a ton of corn (Missouri/Kansas DDGS price versus U.S. corn price) over the past six years.

For example: In August 2000, livestock producers were buying a ton of DDGS for 150% of the price of a ton of corn. It was a good value in rations then. Today because of the build up in the ethanol industry, livestock producers can purchase that ton of DDGS cheaper than the price of corn. Nutritionists are challenging ration inclusion rates because of the cost advantages from using DDGS.

Question: Where can I learn more about feeding DDGS to dairy cows?

Answer: Missouri Dairymen's Resource Guide - By-Products Page http://agebb.missouri.edu/dairy/byprod/index.htm

Distillers Grains for Dairy Cattle (ND)
Dairy Feeding Recommendations (MN)
Economics of Feeding DDG (SD)
Distillers Feeds: Resources (IL)
