Milk Production - Cows down, milk per cow up
Milk production in the U.S. was estimated to be down 0.4% in May 2004 compared to May 2003, based upon 1.3% fewer cows and 0.9% more milk production per cow.
Milk production in the top 20 states was down 0.1% in May 2004 compared to May 2003, based upon 0.9% fewer cows and a 0.8 % increase in milk production per cow.
In Missouri, milk production was down 2.3% in May 2004 compared to May 2003 based upon 4.6% fewer cows, and an increase in milk production per cow of 2.6%.
