Milk Production
Milk production in the U.S. was estimated to be down 1.0% in August
2003 compared to August 2002, based upon 0.9% fewer cows and -0.1%
less milk production per cow.
Milk production in the top 20 states was down 0.8% in August 2003
compared to August 2002, based upon 0.3% fewer cows and a 0.4%
decrease in milk production per cow.
In Missouri, milk production was down 2.7% in August 2003 compared
to August 2002 based upon 5.9% fewer cows, (a drop of 8,000 cows),
and an increase in milk production per cow of 3.2%.
