Feeder Cattle Auction Report for 10/16/2018

Receipts: 1260 Week Ago: 1407 Year Ago: 1278

Compared to last Tuesday, feeder steer and heifers 2.00-5.00 lower. Slaughter
cows steady to 2.00 lower. Demand light to moderate. Supply moderate. Near 16
percent of the offering were cows and 27 percent of the feeders were over
600 lbs. Feeder supply approximately 61 percent steers and bulls and 39 percent
heifers. Pretty well a textbook October calf trade with changing weather, cold
rain, mud and snow creating a potentially lethal combination for bawling calves.
Feedlot bound cattle are also under some pressure with mud and rising corn
prices creating higher costs of gain.

Kingsville Kingsville Livestock Auction
Feeder Cattle Auction Report for 10/16/2018

Receipts: 1628 Week Ago: 1475 Year Ago: 1529

Compared to last week, all weights of steers and yearling heifers traded
mostly steady, heifer calves sold mostly 5.00 lower. An even mix of both
yearlings and calves were offered and the yearlings with some condition once
again found an active market with good demand, moderate demand for fleshier
yearlings. Demand for calves was moderate to light in spots as lots are
still muddy and buyers have already been treating sick calves at home.
However, the week ahead is forecast as sunny and dry which will lift the
mood of both the livestock and the caretakers. Supply was moderate. The
feeder offering was made up of near 53 percent steers and bulls and 47
percent heifers with 54 percent over 600 lbs. Cows and bulls totaled 19
percent of the offering. Slaughter cows sold steady 2.00 higher.
