Boonville-Farmers Livestock Auction
Cattle Auction Report for 07/15/2008

Receipts: 1008 3 Weeks Ago: 1031 Year Ago: 1079

No recent price comparison available as the last sale date was three
weeks ago. Several mid to large consignments of yearling cattle were
available and those offerings drew the most interest. Also a larger than
normal supply of bred cows and pairs on offer, including a few partial or
complete dispersals due to local cattlemen that have converted their
summer pasture acres to crop ground. CBOT Corn contracts closed lower
again Tuesday and most months have lost around 1.00/bu in the past couple
of weeks. Crop conditions have improved in recent weeks due to more
seasonal weather after a devastating start to the planting and growing
season. Of course this news offers no guarantees but farmers are
eternally optimistic. Supply and demand moderate. Cows and bulls
accounted for 24 percent of the total offering. The feeder supply
consisted of 52 percent steers and bulls and 48 percent heifers; 61
percent of the total feeder offering weighed over 600 lbs.

West Plains- Ozarks Regional Stockyard
Feeder Cattle Auction Report for 07/15/2008

Receipts: 4200 Last Week: 2156 Last Year: 4869

Compared to last week, steers and heifers started off steady to 2.00
higher, but quickly moved 2.00-5.00 higher, spots 6.00 higher, once
buyers got settled and quality and bunches improved, with the exception
of 500-650 weight steers which sold mostly steady to firm with last week.
Supply moderate, with several loads of steer yearlings making their way
to town. Demand good, buyer interest not only linked to better quality,
uniform calves preferably weaned with shots, but also continuing their
focus on heavier yearlings in an attempt to zero-in on the more favorable
months of the fat cattle board. Tuesday’s corn futures off 15 cents and
beans losing 40-43 cents not only added some charge to the feeder market,
but drove futures contracts well into the plus column. And the fact that
crude oil dropped 6.00 bucks+ a barrel, the largest one day drop in 17
years, didn’t seem to hurt anyone’s fillings either, even though most
realized they probably wouldn’t see it at the pump. In fact it was noted
that some local stations tacked on 3-4 cents sometime during the day, so
go figure. Tuesday’s supply consisted of 59 percent steers and 41
percent heifers. Near 66 percent weighed over 600 lbs.
