Feeder Cattle Auction Report for 10/10/2017

Receipts: 1506 Week Ago: 1502 Year Ago: 1181

Compared to last Tuesday, feeder steers 600-700 lbs 3.00-4.00 lower, other
weights steady. Feeder heifers 2.00-5.00 lower. Slaughter cows steady. Supply
moderate. 8 percent of the offering were cows and 27 percent of the feeders were
over 600 lbs. Feeder supply approximately 53 percent steers and bulls and 47
percent heifers. The cattle market overall looks fairly bullish at the moment
with the lower trade, particularly on heifer calves likely having much more to
do with health issues associated with the changeable fall weather that are
likely to be with us for at least the next few weeks.

Kingsville–Kingsville Livestock Auction
Feeder Cattle Auction Report for 10/10/2017

Receipts: 1319 Week Ago: 1119 Year Ago: 1210

Compared to last week, based on limited true comparisons steer calves sold
mostly steady and yearling steers and all weights of heifers sold with a higher
undertone. Mostly long time weaned yearling cattle this week compared to last
weeks run of calves and overall quality and condition was more attractive.
Nearby live cattle contracts are showing strength and closed with triple digit
gains fueling demand. Several consignments of heavier weight yearlings well
surpassed the lighter fleshier calves price per pound as demand was very good
for the yearlings and moderate for calves. As many know it can be difficult to
keep those short weaned cattle healthy during the month of October. The feeder
offering was made up of near 50 percent steers and bulls and 50 percent heifers
with 74 percent over 600 lbs. Cows and bulls totaled 12 percent of the offering.
Slaughter cows sold 2.00 to 3.00 higher. Slaughter bulls sold 1.00 higher.
