Cuba - Interstate Regional Stockyards
Feeder Cattle Auction Report for 5/22/2018

Receipts: 1549 Week Ago: 1828 Year Ago: 1520

Compared to last Tuesday, feeder steers steady to 3.00 lower with decline
over 600 lbs. Feeder heifers under 450 lbs 2.00-4.00 lower, over 450 lbs
steady to 3.00 higher. Slaughter cows steady. Supply moderate. Near 11 percent
of the offering were cows and 28 percent of the feeders were over 600 lbs.
Feeder supply approximately 61 percent steers and bulls and 39 percent heifers.
It’s easy to be both a bull and a bear in the cattle with declining fed prices
likely in the short term while Friday’s Cattle on Feed report may confirm more
manageable numbers down the road. Lots of good quality fall calves this week
weighing 450-625 lbs. Rain amounts vary, but the hay and pasture situation has
improved considerably in this country over the past week.

Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves traded steady to 5.00
higher with yearlings trading steady to firm. Demand was good on a heavy
supply. Cash prices responded favorably to Monday's sharp gains on the
boards as well as today's mostly steady market. Price averages were
helped by multi-pot loads of high quality calves from several reputation
herds. Last week, Missouri became the first state to address the "fake
meat" issue. Legislation sent to the Governor, prohibits "misrepresenting
a product as meat that is not derived from harvested production livestock
or poultry." The feeder supply included 54 percent Steers, 45 percent
Heifers, and 2 percent Bulls with 31 percent of the offering weighing over

Compared to two weeks ago, steers and heifers traded mostly 5.00 to
7.00 lower, with several loads of 9 weight steers trading steady with
lower end of the price ranges from the last sale. Slaughter cows 1.00 to
3.00 lower. The feeder market is certainly feeling the pressure from the
sharply lower fat cattle trade the past couple weeks with softer prices
expected again this week. Demand was moderate to good for the load lots of
yearling steers as well as a couple loads of 6 wt heifers, moderate at
best for calves. Supply moderate. Feeder cattle supply included 61
percent Steers, and 39 percent Heifers. Feeder cattle supply over 600
 lbs was 60 percent.
