Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 05/15/2012
Receipts: 1256 Two Weeks Ago: 1653 Year Ago: 2050
Compared to two weeks ago, a couple loads of yearling feeder steers sold
4.00-5.00 higher and a couple loads of yearling heifers traded steady. The calf
run was much lighter than the last sale and offered in smaller lots. Calf
prices were unevenly steady with the exception of a few steers under 450 lbs
which were mostly 10.00 higher and some 6 weight steer and heifer calves that
traded 5.00-7.00 lower. Slaughter cows sold 2.00-3.00 higher with bulls lightly
tested. Local producers have finished planting corn and are now busy with
soybeans, while the bulk of their cattle are comfortably on grass. Supplies
were made up of 32 percent slaughter cows and pairs with the balance mostly
feeders. The feeders consisted of 43 percent steers and 57 percent heifers with
61 percent weighing over 600 lbs.

Compared to last week, five weight steers sold 2.00 to 5.00 higher with
other weight steers uneven but near steady; heifers under 500 lbs sold steady
to 2.00 lower with heavier weight heifers selling steady to firm on a better
test. Demand was good to very good. Supply included three load lots of
steers and two load lots of heifers. Slaughter cows sold steady to 2.00
higher. Cows and bulls were 13 percent of receipts. In the feeder supply,
steers and bulls were 58 percent of the run; heifers 42 percent. Near
49 percent of feeders weighed over 600 lbs.
