cows sold 3.00 lower and bulls sold steady; Demand and supply light.   Cows
made up approximately 12 percent of the run, 88 percent feeders.   Steers made
up approximately 30 percent of the offering, 51 percent heifers.   Offerings
over 600 lbs totaled around 22 percent.

Feeder Cattle Auction Close for 11/16/2009

  Compared to last week, yearling steers and steer calves steady to 1.00
lower, yearling heifers and heifer calves 1.00 to 3.00 lower.  Demand and
supply moderate.  Feeder cattle market under pressure from lower CME cattle
contracts and higher CBOT Corn contracts.  Beef demand sluggish as the upcoming
holidays tend to favor other meats.  A big change from sunshine and warm
temperatures to cool, wet weather curtailed the receipts.  The feeder supply
included 58 percent steers, 36 percent heifers, 06 percent bulls, with 46
percent over 600 lbs.

***Note: Joplin Regional Stockyards is expecting 4000 to 5000 head of yearlings
and several Wean-Vac calves for the auction next Monday, November 23, 2009.

   Compared to last week, too few feeder steers or heifers for a price
test.  Slaughter cows steady to 1.00 higher.  Near continual rain
since early Sunday morning has halted all field work and made handling
livestock difficult.  Potential sellers waiting for next week’s special
Thanksgiving week sale to market cattle.  Demand and supply light.
Cows and bulls accounted for 40 percent of the run and feeders
60 percent.  In the feeder supply, steers and bulls made up
approximately 45 percent of the run; heifers 55 percent; steers and
heifers over 600 lbs totaled around 10 percent.

Few 500-600 lbs 88.50-93.00.

   Compared to last week, steers and heifers from 450-650 lbs sold 1.00
to 4.00 lower.  Slaughter cows steady.  With a wet Sunday and Monday,
supply was light to moderate but with some good quality calves.  Demand
moderate.  Cows and bulls were 12 percent of receipts.  In the feeder
supply, steers and bulls were 53 percent of the run; heifers were
47 percent.  Near 44 percent of feeders weighed over 600 lbs.

   Compared to last week, slaughter cows and bulls sold steady with instances
of 1.00 higher. Bred cows and pairs were fairly scarce and interest in those
available was somewhat lacking. Several of the cows on offer had some good size
and dressing percentage but the majority of the slaughter cows and bulls were
pretty full. Rain moved back into Southwest Missouri over the weekend and is
forecast for the better part of the next week. Supply and demand for slaughter
classes was moderate.
