Ava - Douglas County Livestock Auction
Feeder Cattle Auction for 10/18/18

Receipts: 1549 Last Week: 1190 Year Ago: 1537

Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves 3.00 to mostly 5.00
lower, except some front-end steer calves under 500 lbs steady, not
enough yearlings to fully test the market. Slaughter cows and bulls 2.00
lower. Demand moderate to light, supply moderate. Not many takers for
the high risk, un-weaned and short weaned calves, especially bull calves.
Near 16 percent of receipts were replacement cows, slaughter cows and
bulls. The feeder supply included 38 percent steers, 47 percent heifers,
14 percent bulls, with 17 percent over 600 lbs.

Butler Mo-Kan Livestock Auction
Feeder Cattle Report for 10/17/2018

Receipts: 1039 Week Ago: 918 Year Ago: Not reported

Compared to last week, a few comparable sales of steers traded steady to
3.00 lower but for the most part a sharp contrast in type and kind was
offered as mostly fleshy calves off the cow were brought to town this week
that sold with a lower undertone. Its peak season for sick cattle and some
of the sharpest discounts of the year are seen for any cattle with health
risks, as well most of the feeders offered were carrying quite a little
flesh whether milk fat or from being fed hard. Supply was moderate and
demand was mostly moderate to light, good for steers under 525 lbs and a few
packages of yearling steers off grass. The feeder offering consisted of 55
percent steers and bulls and 45 percent heifers with 59 percent over 600
lbs. Cows and bulls totaled 20 percent of the offering. Slaughter cows sold
1.00-3.00 lower.
