***Special Bred Cow Sale Saturday, December 16. Next calf and yearling
 auction Thursday, December 21.***

Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves under 550 lbs sold steady
to firm, heavier weight calves and a few yearlings traded steady to 5.00
lower. Yearlings over 700 lbs sold spots 7.00 to 8.00 lower as most of
those cattle have missed their chance to hit the April board, which still
holds a significant premium to later month contracts, Slaughter cows 3.00
to 4.00 lower. Some price adjustment in the cash feeder market has
finally been deemed necessary after the impressive price levels nobody
expected this fall. Seasonally heavy supplies and lower futures markets
have taken their toll the past couple weeks. Supply heavy and demand
moderate to good, just at lower price levels. Feeder cattle supply
included 63 percent Steers, 37 percent Heifers, and 1 percent Bulls.
Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 51 percent.

Feeder Cattle Report for 12/7/2017

Receipts: 873 Week Ago: 1504 Year Ago: 837

Compared to last week, a lighter run of feeders sold 3.00-10.00 lower
with the most decline on the steer side except 400-500 lb steers trading mostly
steady. Sharp losses on the CME give buyers no choice but to buy cattle at
more modest prices as concern with the number of cattle available to feed and
slaughter has put negative pressure on the market. Some fancy consignments of
calves straight off the cow were offered and saw good demand as the cold has
set in for the time being which is a welcome sight for feeders. Overall demand
was mostly moderate with a moderate supply. The feeder offering included near
61 percent steers and bulls and 39 percent heifers, with 37 percent over 600
lbs. Cows and bulls totaled 22 percent of the offering. Slaughter cows sold
4.00-6.00 lower.
