New Cambria - New Cambria Livestock Auction
Feeder Cattle Auction for 09/11/14

Receipts: 1134 2 Weeks Ago: 1434 Year Ago: 905

Compared to the previous auction from two weeks ago, feeder steers
10.00-15.00 higher and feeder heifers firm to 5.00 higher. Slaughter
cows steady. An active market with the offering consisting of both
calves and yearlings. Heavy rain earlier in the week has caused
flooding through the low areas, but pastures and ponds are in great
shape heading into fall. USDA confirmed the huge grain crop in their
production report issued Thursday. Finally some cheap feed for
livestock producers that have spent the last several years struggling
to put together workable feed rations. Replacement cow prices should
be ‘out of sight’ with cheap feed and record calf prices. Demand good
and the supply moderate. Cows and bulls accounted for 8 percent of the
run and feeders 92 percent. In the feeder supply, steers and bulls
made up approximately 50 percent; heifers 50 percent; steers and
heifers over 600 lbs totaled around 65 percent.

Scheduling note: New Cambria will hold a special replacement cow sale
on Saturday, September 20. The next feeder sale is Thursday,
September 25.
