New Cambria - New Cambria Livestock Auction
Feeder Cattle Auction for 07/30/15

Receipts: 875 2 Weeks Ago: 1206 Year Ago: 990

Few good feeder cattle comparisons with the previous auction from
two weeks ago; a lower undertone noted on yearling steers. Slaughter
cows steady. Mostly yearlings offered with the few calves that were
marketed sold as singles or in small packages. Several fancy strings
of fall calving cows also sold. Calf producers, backgrounders, feedlots,
and packers all waiting for the beef market to rebound from this
mid-summer slump that has seen prices drop throughout all segments of
the industry. Unusually wet summer weather continues throughout North
Missouri. Pastures are in good shape, but very little hay has been
baled and it is almost unbelievable to see the number of ‘would be’
soybean fields that were never planted. A few farmers were still trying
to plant beans as late as July 24. Normally beans planted after the 4th
of July holiday are considered late for North Missouri and are at risk
of being hit by frost this fall. Demand good and supply light to
moderate. Cows and bulls accounted for 30 percent of the run and
feeders 70 percent. In the feeder supply, steers and bulls made up
approximately 55 percent; heifers 45 percent; steers and heifers over
600 lbs totaled around 80 percent.

Scheduling note: The next feeder sale is Thursday, August 13.
