Feeder Cattle Auction for 1/12/17

   Compared to last week, steers and heifers steady to 3.00 lower. 
Slaughter cows and bulls steady to 2.00 higher.  Demand moderate for 
feeder cattle, good for slaughter cows and bulls.  Supply moderate.  Near
18 percent of the offering was replacement cows, slaughter cows and
bulls.  The feeder supply included 39 percent steers, 42 percent heifers,
20 percent bulls, with 24 percent over 600 lbs.  The winter storm watch
across the Plains and Midwest curtailed some receipts and kept some
feeder cattle Buyers out of the market.

   Compared to last week, steers sold mostly steady, spots 3.00 lower.
Heifer sold steady to 4.00 higher, except 550-600 lbs 3.00 lower. Demand
was moderate to good with a heavy supply. Several consignments of high
quality reputation cattle were offered. The area is preparing for what 
could be a major ice storm over the weekend. The run of feeders included
near 61 percent steers and bulls, and 39 percent heifers, with 58 percent
over 600 lbs. Cows and bulls totaled 9 percent of the offering. Slaughter
cows sold steady to 2.00 higher.

Sheep and Goat Auction for 01/13/2017

   Supply light to moderate on a nice offering of mostly lambs and ewes selling
in nice lots and groups and trading with good demand.  The supply was near 80
percent sheep and near 20 percent goats.  Slaughter lambs sold with a higher
undertone from last month with market kid goats selling with steady undertone
on a light supply.  Montgomery County Livestock Auction holds the Sheep and
Goat Auction the second Thursday of each month.  All prices per cwt unless
noted otherwise.

   Compared to last week, steers and heifers steady to 4.00 lower with the most
decline on steers over 650 lbs. Slaughter cows steady. Several nice strings of
cattle on offer although quality not quite as attractive from start to finish
as last week. A couple volatile days at the CME this week took a little
confidence out of the market and a looming wide spread ice storm also caused
buyers to pull back a bit. Supply heavy and demand moderate. Cows and bulls
accounted for 10 percent of the total offering. The feeder supply consisted of
58 percent steers and bulls and 42 percent heifers; 51 percent of all the
feeder cattle weighed over 600 lbs. 

***Scheduling Note: The Special Cow Sale scheduled for this Saturday,
January 14th has been cancelled due to the impending ice storm. Next Special
Cow Sale Saturday, February 11th.***

   At this month's special dairy sale at the Producers Auction Yard,
demand was good on a moderate supply.  The supply consisted of 4
percent Springer Heifers, 5 percent Bred Heifers, 25 percent Open
Heifers, 7 percent Fresh and Milking Cows, 2 percent Bred Cows and 23
percent baby calves.  The balance was made up of weigh cows and beef
