New Cambria - New Cambria Livestock Auction
Feeder Cattle Auction for 03/19/15

Receipts:  1805    2 Weeks Ago:  1012    Year Ago:  825

   Compared to the previous auction from two weeks ago, steer calves
under 500 lbs 5.00-10.00 higher, and feeder steers over 500 lbs
2.00-6.00 higher. Feeder heifers steady to 5.00 higher. Slaughter cows
1.00-3.00 lower compared to last week’s cow sale. The offering ran the
full gamut from feather weight calves to a load of thousand pound steers.
Of course the grass cattle buyers were aggressive for the lighter
weights, and the feedlot buyers have been flashing more money thanks to
strong fat cattle prices and sharply higher futures markets at the CME.
Overall tight cattle supplies continue to support beef prices even as
other meat commodities are under pressure; (Hog prices only half of
last year). Demand was good and the supply moderate. Cows and bulls
accounted for 8 percent of the run and feeders 92 percent. In the
feeder supply, steers and bulls made up approximately 56 percent;
heifers 44 percent; steers and heifers over 600 lbs totaled around
51 percent.

Scheduling note: The next feeder sale is Thursday, March 26.
