Compared to the last sale three weeks ago, steers under 650 lbs and
all weights of heifers steady to 5.00 lower, heavier weight steers steady
to 3.00 higher. Slaughter cows steady to 2.00 lower. Quality and
condition ran the gamut throughout the day and buyers were rewarded
accordingly, with fleshy and unweaned cattle suffering more discount than
in recent weeks. The positive performance in cattle futures this week has
given the the cash feeder market a little footing but also slowed down
both the speed and volume of negotiated fat cattle sales, after
significant losses the last couple weeks. Supply heavy and demand
moderate. Feeder cattle supply included 60 percent Steers, and 40
percent Heifers. Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 43 percent.
