About the Risk Management Series
Persons in the Department of Agricultural Economics and with the Commercial Agriculture Program at the University of Missouri have constructed these publications to help Missouri farmers and agribusiness persons to better manage risk. These publications were developed as an educational tool for the teaching of risk management through discussing futures/options trading, developing a marketing plan, and understanding historical price trends.
Changes in domestic farm programs and increased free global trade has made the market place more uncertain. Additionally, opportunities to produce specialty crops, emphasis on producer owned cooperatives, and increased environmental concerns have added to not only marketing risk but uncertainty regarding short and long-term production decisions. Though the scope of possible concerns in domestic agriculture are far too numerous to be all inclusive, we have chosen those topics of greatest concern at this time. We expect to update this information periodically to include new materials that are relevant to the risk management decisions of the agriculture related agribusiness.
