INVITED PAPER

• This paper was authored by Dr. Kevin Dhuyvetter in the Department of Agricultural Economists, Kansas State University. Kevin Previously authored a Kansas State Extension Publication titled, "Estimating the Value of SEW Pigs", that some estimate 60 to 80% of the SEW pigs in the U.S. are priced using this formula. This new paper provides an updated methodology for pricing segregated early weaned (SEW) pigs. There are likely several producers out there involved with or considering contract hog production. Though the USDA reports a price on a weekly basis this formula could be used by the contractor and contractee interested in a long-term contract.
