2003 Grape Survey
Grape and wine production in Missouri dates back to the mid 1800's with wine production currently accounting for most of the
grape crop utilization. Grape acreage has not returned to the levels of the past but has recovered to 960 bearing acres, up from
800 in 1999. Non-bearing acreage is estimated at 120 acres, lifting total grape acreage in Missouri to 1,080 acres. The utilization
of Missouri grape production has shifted significantly since the 1984 survey. Over 96 percent of the 2003 production was used
in wine production whereas 1984 indicated 60 percent was processed into juice and other grape products.
