The 1998 Census of Aquaculture was the first national census taken for this industry. The Aquaculture Census collected detailed information relating to on-farm aquaculture practices, size of operation based on water area, production, sales, method of production, sources of water, point of first sales outlets, cooperative agreements and contracts, and aquaculture distributed for restoration or conservation purposes. Foodsize fish lead all sales in Missouri with $3,759,000.
