WHAT IS MAC?
The Missouri Alternatives Center serves as a communications
center for Missouri farmers, Extension staff, government personnel
and people who want to begin farming, diversify their current
operation, or find ways to profit from small amounts of aceage.
The Center has answered over 18,000 information requests on
approximately 800 topics since opening in 1988, including:
-selecting and evaluating alternative enterprises
-aquaculture--catfish, bait fish
-numerous fruits and vegetables
-sheep, goats & rabbits
-exotic livestock--ostriches, emus, rheas, llamas,
alpacas, elk
-marketing
-gamebirds--quail, pheasant
-organic farming and certification
-herbs, edible flowers & ginseng
-hydroponics, greenhouses & nursery crops
-alternative row crops--canola, amaranth, sunflower
-and much more

We provide printed materials, a list of resources and resource
people to contact for more information.

MAC also rents videos relating to non-traditional agriculture and
options for small farms on these and other topics:
-rotational grazing
-vegetables
-high value marketing
-integrated pest management for vegetables and small fruits
