Contributors: Charlene Chan-Muehlbauer, Douglas Gunnink, Jodi Dansingburg
Published: Marine on St. Croix, MN : Land Stewardship Project , 1994

Summary: The farms profiled for these case-studies are operated with different philosophies and approaches and all have developed operations that do not rely on purchased inputs such as chemical soluble fertilizers. Each farm (three raise field crops, three have dairy operations, one has diversified livestock) is managed as a whole, integrated operation in which soil, crops and livestock are interdependent. The farms earn above average income by minimizing production costs, focusing on increasing profits instead of increasing yields and learning from natural systems. The second printing, Nov. 1994, has an expanded introduction and includes the phrase "An agriculture that makes sense" at head of title.
