Workshop Agenda

Overview of irrigation scheduling.
Using Arkansas Scheduler software program.
Accessing automatic weather stations in Missouri for use in irrigation scheduling.
Using graphs to schedule irrigation without needing a computer.
Timing of fertigation.
When to start and when to stop irrigations.

Who Should Attend

Beginning irrigators who want to know when to apply irrigation.
Experienced irrigators who are not satisfied with the yield increase of their irrigated fields.
Landlords who want to help their renters fine-tune their irrigation decisions.
Irrigators who own computers and would like an easy-to-use tool to make them better managers.
Irrigators without computers, or who do not want to hassle with computers, but wish to scientifically apply irrigations based on single-page charts.
Bankers who want to help their customers increase their farm profits.
Wives (or teenage kids) of farmers who are willing to take over the computer aspect of irrigation scheduling, while dad handles turning the pumps on and off.

Help make irrigation a family endeavor

Irrigation is a time-consuming job, involving moving pipe, getting pumps running and other things. And sometime in there, seeds need to be planted and some weeds taken care of !! When do you ever get time to make plans regarding when to turn your irrigation wells on and off ? Why not allow the wife or the computer-interested teenager to assist; they can run the irrigation scheduling program for you.

We highly encourage the farm wife and/or teenage children to attend the work-shop. If you've been looking for a good way to get your kids involved with the family farm, this may be an excellent opportunity.

This may be the most valuable 3 hours you'll ever spend

Irrigated yields in the Bootheel are about 155 bu/ac for corn, 43 bu/ac for soybeans, 39 bu/ac for double-crop soybeans, and 846 lbs/ac for cotton. All these levels could probably be raised 10 or 15%. One of the biggest stumbling blocks to higher irrigated yields is improper irrigation timing. Proper timing of irrigation might lead to you grossing an additional $50 per acre !!

Due to the EQIP program and contributions from the University of Arkansas and the Commercial Agricultural Program of the University of Missouri, this valuable workshop can be offered to you at no charge. With the workshop you'll receive:

computer irrigation program and manual
a 60-page book of irrigation charts (for non computer users)
