Nitrogen Movement
Clays and organic matter have negative charges
- therefore nitrate (NO3-) will move readily with the water
- ammonium (NH4+) will adsorb onto soil within few inches of application, but is then converted to nitrate
- urea (CO(NH2)2) has no charge and will move until transformed to ammonium, and then to nitrate
