Berm slopes shall not be steeper than 3:1. Inner slopes shall not be flatter
that 4:1. Longer outer slopes should be flatter that 3:1 assist with safe mowing
of vegetation.
Compaction methods which would achieve a standard proctor density of 90% of
optimum throughout the berm are acceptable.
The minimum berm width must be four feet. If large farm equipment is to be
used for mowing, a top width of eight feet must be provided.
The area where the berm rests shall be stripped of all organic matter and
all tree roots grubbed. As a general rule, all trees within 100 feet of the
water's edge must be removed.
Berms, diversion ditches and any terraces shall be seeded and must have a
good vegetative cover to reduce erosion and aid in weed control.
Rip-rap or some other acceptable method of erosion control is required
around piping entrances and exits.
Class IA CAFOs utilizing flush systems must have a secondary containment
structure or earthen dam.
Diversion terraces and ditches are required to prevent surface water
intrusion into the lagoon.
