Biosecurity refers to taking precautionary measures
(that include people and animal movements) to limit
the transmission of diseases within and onto a farm.
Isolation from other livestock operations is an
effective way to minimize the risk of disease transmission
among livestock between your operation and other
operations.
Finding a suitable location
for a livestock operation should be located as far
as possible from other livestock operations, with
an intended separation distance of 1.5 miles (minimum)
between operations. Wind direction and the location
of other livestock is important due to the
spread of pathogens through the air. Flat open land
without trees or other wind protection measures
provide a greater risk for the spread of disease.
