Green Horizons

Volume 14, Number 3
Summer 2010

Two sales from April tell the tale that quality species bring premium prices. While stumpage prices have fallen victim to the same economic woes besetting other markets the past two years, quality species such as walnut (lumber and veneer) and white oak (staves) have remained relatively strong. It's when the sale includes the 'mixed bag' of mixed hardwoods that bids take a turn south. It all depends on market demand. And who better to know market conditions than a consulting forester!
